The team: The urban hydrology team focuses on measuring, modelling and shaping the future. It pursues future-oriented, holistic urban hydrology that considers rainfall, water bodies, sewer systems, surfaces, evaporation and groundwater as a hydrological unit, while balancing the interests of residents, business and nature. The team created Hamburg's heavy-rain hazard map and continuously improves the underlying coupled 1D/2D models to support reliable heavy-rain preparedness.

Your responsibilities:

  • Review and correct coupled 1D/2D flood models and GIS data.
  • Analyze digital terrain data and heavy-rainfall events.
  • Support GIS departments in Tanzania through an operator partnership.
  • Support the analysis and processing of flooding problems.
  • Create training videos for the simulation platform.

Your profile:

  • Be enrolled in geoinformatics/geoinformation, hydroinformatics, civil engineering, environmental engineering or a comparable programme.
  • Good GIS knowledge is required.
  • Knowledge of hydrodynamic modelling is desirable; surveying knowledge may also be useful.
  • Independent, structured working style and willingness to collaborate in a team.
