What we are changing: The urban hydrology team’s motto is: Measure, model and shape the future. Its goal is to develop future-oriented, holistic urban hydrology that views precipitation, water bodies, sewer systems, the surface, evaporation and groundwater as one hydrological unit, while considering the interests of residents, business and nature in a balanced way for the wider economy. One of its core tasks is modelling flooding caused by heavy rainfall. The team created Hamburg’s heavy-rainfall hazard map and continuously improves the underlying 1D/2D models to provide a reliable basis for heavy-rainfall preparedness in Hamburg.

Your responsibilities:

  • Review and correct coupled 1D/2D flood models and GIS data
  • Analyse digital terrain data and heavy-rainfall events
  • Support GIS departments in Tanzania as part of an operator partnership
  • Support the analysis and processing of flooding problems
  • Create training videos for the simulation platform

What you bring:

  • Enrolled in a degree programme in geoinformatics/geoinformation, hydroinformatics, civil engineering, environmental engineering or a comparable field
  • Good GIS skills are required
  • Knowledge of hydrodynamic modelling is desirable; knowledge of surveying may also be useful
  • An independent and structured working style, together with an interest in working collaboratively in a team
