Role focus: In the urban hydrology team, the motto is: Measure, model, shape the future! The aim is a future-oriented, holistic urban hydrology that understands precipitation, water bodies, sewer systems, surfaces, evaporation and groundwater as one hydrological unit, while taking the interests of citizens, business and nature into account in a balanced way. A core task is modelling heavy-rain-related flooding. The team created Hamburg's heavy-rain hazard map and continuously improves the underlying 1D/2D models to provide a reliable basis for heavy-rain preparedness in Hamburg.
Responsibilities:
- Review and correct coupled 1D/2D flood models and GIS data
- Analyse digital terrain data and heavy-rain events
- Support GIS departments in Tanzania as part of an operator partnership
- Support the analysis and processing of flooding problems
- Create training videos for the simulation platform
Requirements:
- Enrolment in geoinformatics/geoinformation, hydroinformatics, civil engineering, environmental engineering or a comparable programme
- Good GIS skills are required
- Knowledge of hydrodynamic modelling is desirable, as is potentially knowledge of surveying
