One core task is modelling heavy-rainfall flooding. The team created Hamburg's heavy-rainfall hazard map and continuously improves the underlying coupled 1D/2D models to provide a reliable basis for heavy-rainfall prevention.

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing and correcting coupled 1D/2D flood models and GIS data
  • Analysing digital terrain data and heavy-rainfall events
  • Supporting GIS departments in Tanzania through an operator partnership
  • Supporting the analysis and processing of flooding issues
  • Creating training videos for the simulation platform

Requirements

  • Enrolment in geoinformatics/geoinformation, hydroinformatics, civil engineering, environmental engineering or a comparable degree programme
  • Good GIS skills are required
  • Knowledge of hydrodynamic modelling is desirable; surveying knowledge may also be useful
  • An independent and structured way of working and an interest in teamwork
